Dina Pancahua was born in Pisac, a town near Cuzco that is famous in Peru for the large number of artisans amongst its population. Going there is a marvelous experience: an open-air market is the main attraction of this village, a market in which you can find a wide range of products. Pisac is an obligatory destiny in any visit to Cuzco. “I come from a family of Artisans”, says Dina, “but at first I did not pay any attention to the artistic activity. Although my mother was a specialist in ceramics, I studied nursery.” However, when he was 28 years old she reencountered with the art of pottery.

Today, Dina works with her family in her workshop and a group of artisans working under her supervision. She has won recognition and respect. Her ceramics have been part of art expositions throughout the years. “I combine my own designs with the traditional ones which come from the ancient time of the Incas. I want to express my art in different ways. Therefore I produce various ceramics, such as vases, nativity scenes, chess sets and other artistic pieces”.

“Internet is a wonderful tool”. Dina gets excited when she talks about the possibilities that technology could give to her art. An on-line market defies the traditional barriers of time and space that are a traditional limitation to the artisans. “I want to expand my market and to get closer to the customer. Selling my products to the world is a very important opportunity”. The smile of Dina’s face expresses her optimism in the future while her talented hands mold the shapeless ceramic to produce beautiful pottery.
