Cristobal
Mamani and his family believe that the creative process is an
endless one. “ Some artisans only copy. I am always
searching for new themes and techniques”. Cristobal was born
in San Salvador, a town near Cuzco. “My themes come mainly
from the heights of Cuzco. I reproduce local people from the
region, trying to reflect their traditions. I am always in
contact with my town”. He also represents scenes from other
parts of Peru. When he was younger, he worked in a bus
company. This experience allowed him to know the traditions of
different parts of the country. Also, he uses biblical passages as an
inspiration, a fact that manifests the deepness of Peruvian
religious faith.

Cristobal
starts to talk about the Internet: “A more direct contact benefits both the
producer and the customer. This is an advantage that technology brings”. At
this point, her daughter intervenes. She helps her father and specializes in
international commerce. “The World Wide Web allows a closer relationship with
the customers. In the transactions by conventional commerce systems the final
buyers are unknown to the artist. Internet is changing this situation”.
